Let’s see where this goes

Twitter is fun but I miss being able to write out my thinking without having to worry about a character limit and the subsequent misunderstandings. Twitter is an enjoyable exercise because being pithy and figuring out how to make your point within that structure compels you to think about the essence of what you are saying. However, the downside is also apparent when serious or interesting topics are the subject and it becomes impossible to truly express your thinking within the structure. This often means things like context and nuance get pushed aside even though those are critical ingredients of proper thought or argumentation. Yes, one can do threads but that is different than just writing it all out in a flow. I don’t expect as many people to read my Medium as see my tweets but I think it will be worthwhile for the sake of clarity and organizing my thinking.

None of this should be construed as a knock on Twitter which I view (perhaps unfairly since I haven’t used them all) as the greatest social media platform and perhaps greatest website ever made. It has allowed me to see so many different points of view from people of many backgrounds. I cherish the friendships I have made on there. I have met people so wonderful who I wouldn’t have otherwise and they have changed me for the better and in some cases also changed my thinking.Twitter is incredible in allowing you to meet people all over the world. It’s marvelous that the website is free because what it provides would actually be worth paying for. I’m going to stay there for sure but use Medium as a complement so every now and then when I feel like it I can write out my thoughts.
